Benedicimus Deum caeli

Singing of God's mercy, this SATB motet in Latin sets words of thanksgiving and praise. The text, drawn from a communion hymn, speaks of blessing the God of heaven and confessing His mercy before all the living, particularly for what He has done for "us." John Reager's setting emphasizes the solemnity and communal joy of this act of devotion. The clear, direct musical language serves the devotional purpose of the text, making it a suitable choice for a cappella liturgical or concert settings. Its rich harmonies and straightforward structure make it accessible to choirs looking for a powerful yet manageable Renaissance-style Latin motet.
