About Benedicat te Dominus
Maistre Jhan was a French composer of the Renaissance, and this motet is a fine example of the genre. Setting a Latin text from the Book of Numbers, the work offers a blessing from God, invoking divine protection and prosperity, wishing for a sweet fragrance from a vine beside flowing waters, and a crown of glory. The rich scoring for SATTTB voices creates a sonorous and intricate texture, ideal for a skilled choir.
