Benedicam Dominum by Orlando di Lasso — Lyrics

Tituli inscriptio, ipsi David. Conserva me, Domine, quoniam speravi in te.

About Benedicam Dominum

Orlando di Lasso’s Benedicam Dominum is a sacred motet for double choir (SATB, ATTB), setting a Latin text drawn from Psalm 15. The composer opens with a direct, homophonic statement of the first phrase, quickly expanding into richer contrapuntal textures. The music reflects the text’s themes of trust in God and the comfort found in divine guidance. The interplay between the two choirs allows for moments of dialogue and echo, building to a fervent expression of faith. The motet’s structure and imitative writing showcase Lasso’s masterful command of Renaissance polyphony, offering a profound musical meditation on spiritual reliance.
