Ben venga il pastor is a secular Italian madrigal for SATB choir, by Maddalena Casulana. The text paints a pastoral scene at the end of the day, where a shepherd and his nymph express their deep affection for one another. As night falls and the sun sets, they bid farewell with tender words and a promise of reunion. The music reflects the joy and desire of the lovers, as well as their sorrow at parting, with Amore itself weeping alongside them as their hearts are divided.
