Ben venga amore by Giovanni Animuccia — Lyrics
[Rit.] Ben venga amore, io ti sento nel core.
[1.]
Pensando la tua gratia,
di venir in me vile,
l'anima non si satia
di te, Amor gentile;
deh, fammi esser humile
per tua gloria et honore.
[2.]
Rinfresca a la mia mente
li tuoi gran benefitii,
acciò ch'io sia fervente
in tutti e santi offitii;
Deh, spegni li miei vitii
col tuo lum'et splendore.
[3.]
Quanto più ti contemplo,
Iesu mio dolce padre,

About Ben venga amore
This setting of the Italian laude Ben venga amore (Welcome, Love) by Giovanni Animuccia is for SATB choir. The text expresses the soul's deep longing for divine love, finding solace and devotion in contemplation of Christ's grace. The singer implores Jesus to make them humble, fervent in duty, and to extinguish their vices with divine light. The repeated refrain, 'Welcome, Love, I feel you in my heart,' underscores the intimate and personal nature of this devotional experience. The music would likely reflect the text's heartfelt pleas and expressions of spiritual yearning.
