Ben ho del caro oggeto by Luca Marenzio — Lyrics
About Ben ho del caro oggeto
In this secular Italian madrigal for SAATB voices, Marenzio explores the profound and conflicting emotions of love. The text vividly portrays a lover whose senses are deprived of their beloved, yet their image is deeply imprinted on the soul. It contrasts the lover's suffering and burning desire with the beloved's radiant presence elsewhere. The second part implores Love to convey to the absent beloved the speaker's constant hope, fervent longing, and the unbearable pain of separation. The burning passion is so intense that distance only serves to intensify the fire, a poignant reflection on unrequited or distant love.
