Bel acueil le sergent d'Amours by Antoine Busnois — Lyrics
About Bel acueil le sergent d'Amours
Antoine Busnois's chansons were highly prized in the courts of the 15th century, and this secular song for TTB voices is a fine example of his art. The text, sung in French, describes the narrator’s summons by Amor, the personification of love, who has already called him several times. Amor threatens to banish him and withdraw all aid if he does not attend his court soon. The musical setting would suit a concert programme, perhaps as part of a sequence of Renaissance secular music. Its three male voices offer a rich texture, and the composer's skill ensures that the music vividly reflects the insistent and slightly anxious mood of the text.
