Orlando di Lasso’s Beatus qui intelligit is a sacred motet for six-part choir (SATTBB). The Latin text, drawn from Psalm 41, offers comfort and assurance to the afflicted. It speaks of the blessings bestowed upon those who show compassion to the poor and needy, promising divine protection in times of trouble and illness. The composer vividly portrays the plea of the suffering individual, acknowledging sin and seeking divine mercy.
