Beati pauperes by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck — Lyrics
About Beati pauperes
Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck sets the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount in this sacred Latin motet. The text, drawn from the Gospel of Matthew, begins with blessings on the poor in spirit, the meek, and those who mourn, promising them the Kingdom of Heaven and possession of the earth. It continues through blessings on the merciful, the pure in heart, and the peacemakers, culminating in the call to rejoice and be glad when persecuted for righteousness' sake, for great is their reward in heaven. This rich polyphonic setting for SATTB choir masterfully conveys the profound spiritual message of Christ's teachings, offering a contemplative and uplifting experience.
