About Beata Viscera III (D-Ju MS 33)

This setting of the Marian antiphon Beata Viscera is from the D-Ju MS 33 manuscript, dating from the late medieval period. The text focuses on the blessed womb and breasts of the Virgin Mary, which bore and nursed the eternal Son of God, who was born for the world's salvation. The composer remains anonymous, as was common for much medieval sacred music. This piece is written for SATB choir, with Latin lyrics. The added verse and communion verse offer further reflections on a sanctified day and the good word that has sprung from the heart, appropriate for the communion rite.
