About Beata es virgo Maria
This motet for SATTB voices opens with a rich, imitative texture, its contrapuntal lines weaving together to celebrate the Virgin Mary. The Latin text draws from various scriptural sources and liturgical phrases, extolling Mary as the blessed mother of Christ, who carried the Creator of the world. The music reflects the reverence of the text, with moments of grand declamation and serene beauty. The composer Joannes de Latre creates a moving devotional work, its intricate vocal writing a fitting tribute to the 'Mother of God, who believed all things spoken to you' and is 'exalted above the choirs of Angels.'
