Beata Dei genitrix

A devotional motet for SATB choir, Beata Dei genitrix Maria is sung in Latin and draws on Marian texts, focusing on Mary as the blessed Mother of God, perpetual Virgin, and dwelling-place of the Holy Spirit. The text emphasizes her unique favour with Christ and implores her intercession for all people, clergy, and devout women. Francesco de Layolle, a composer of the Franco-Flemish school who spent much of his career in Italy, wrote this motet in a style typical of sacred polyphony of the Renaissance. Its rich harmonies and flowing melodic lines make it suitable for liturgical settings or concert programmes, particularly during Marian feast days or throughout the liturgical year when devotion to Mary is prominent.
