Barechu

Salamone Rossi’s Barechu is a setting of a liturgical Hebrew text, a call to bless God forever. It is suitable for use in services during the Jewish year. This motet is written for a three-part choir of sopranos, altos, and basses (SAB). Rossi, a key figure in the transition from Renaissance to Baroque music, was known for bridging Jewish and Italian musical traditions. His sacred works often displayed a sophisticated harmonic language and contrapuntal skill, evident here in the careful setting of the biblical words.
