Baci amorosi e cari by Melchior Borchgrevinck — Lyrics
Baci amorosi e cari,
Deh non mi siate avari
Se in così bel desire
Mi sento ahimè languire.
O dolcezza d'amor rara e infinita:
Con un bacio donar l'alma e la vita.

About Baci amorosi e cari
Melchior Borchgrevinck’s Baci amorosi e cari is a secular Italian madrigal for SSATB voices. Its text speaks of a lover’s yearning for kisses, pleading with the beloved not to be stingy with their affection. The words describe the intense desire felt by the singer and the ultimate wish to give their soul and life in exchange for a single kiss. This setting captures the dramatic expressiveness characteristic of the madrigal genre. It would be well-suited for a concert program of Renaissance part-music or a collection of Italian love songs, offering a rich sound from its five distinct voice parts.
