About Ave verum No. 2
The words of this motet express a profound contemplation of Christ's sacrifice: 'Hail, true body, born of the Virgin Mary; who truly suffered, sacrificed on the cross for man; whose pierced side flowed with water and blood; be for us a foretaste, in the trial of death.' Setting this ancient Latin text, Bernard Hellebusch crafts a devotional SSA setting that allows the choir to explore the solemnity and pathos of the liturgy. The music invites a sensitive interpretation, drawing the singers and listeners into the heart of the eucharistic mystery and the plea for mercy.
