Ave vera caro Christi

This motet for SSAT voices opens with a flowing, imitative texture, drawing the listener into the text. The anonymous composer crafts a moving meditation on the suffering of Christ and his sacrifice. The Latin text directly addresses the "true flesh of Christ" on the cross, questioning his cry of abandonment. It then transforms into a plea for mercy, acknowledging the salvific power of Christ's body and the redemption offered through his sacrifice. The final lines invoke the "sweet son of the Virgin Mary" with a direct prayer for compassion. This work offers a poignant and devotional reflection suitable for sacred occasions.
