Ave nobilissima creatura by Costanzo Festa — Lyrics

About Ave nobilissima creatura
Sung at Marian feasts or on occasions honouring the Virgin Mary, Costanzo Festa’s Ave nobilissima creatura is a sacred motet for SATTB choir. The Latin text is a devotional meditation, addressing Mary as the noblest and most blessed creature, the mother of Christ. It draws parallels between kissing her image and hearing the angelic greeting, Ave Maria. The composer weaves together phrases that celebrate her unique purity and glorious status as queen of saints, eternally blessed with her son Jesus Christ. Festa’s writing for five voices allows for rich, polyphonic textures, ideal for conveying the reverence and profound beauty of the text.
