About Ave maris stella VI
This well-known Marian antiphon is set here for treble, bass, and tenor voices in a 16th-century arrangement. The Latin text is a beautiful plea to Mary, Star of the Sea, Mother of God, ever Virgin, and Gate of Heaven. It implores her to change Eve's name, to free the guilty, give light to the blind, and expel evil. The text asks her to show herself a mother and accept our prayers, so that we who were born for Christ may be His forever. It prays for a pure life and a safe journey, that we may always rejoice in seeing Jesus. The hymn concludes with praise to God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
