Ave maris stella in F a4 by Franciszek Walczyński — Lyrics
About Ave maris stella in F a4
Franciszek Walczyński's setting of the Marian antiphon Ave maris stella is written for SATB choir. The Latin text addresses Mary as Star of the Sea, ever-Virgin Mother of God, and Gate of Heaven. It implores her to grant peace, to be a mother to us, to turn Eve's name into our salvation, to loosen the chains of the guilty, and to bring light to the blind. The hymn asks her to show herself as mother, to receive our prayers through her Son, and to make us meek and chaste, free from sin. It concludes by asking for a pure life and a safe journey, so that seeing Jesus we may forever rejoice, and by offering praise to God the Father, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
