About Ave maris stella in E Flat
This setting of the ancient Marian antiphon Ave maris stella is suitable for a choir of two sopranos. The Latin text invokes Mary as the star of the sea, mother of God, ever-virgin, and gate of heaven. It asks her to found us in peace, to free the guilty from their chains, to bring light to the blind, and to bestow all good things. The prayer continues, asking Mary to show herself as a mother, and to accept our prayers so that we may rejoice in seeing Jesus, who was born for us and became yours. The text ends with a request for a pure life and a safe journey, leading to eternal joy. The final stanza offers praise to God the Father, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
