About Ave Maria, mater Dei
This setting of the Marian text Ave Maria, mater Dei begins by invoking the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven, Lady of the world, and Empress of Hell. The prayer continues, asking for mercy for the singer and all Christians, and for protection from sin, that God's holy will may be fulfilled. Robert Hunt’s devotional motet is written for mixed-voice choir, SATB. It is a votive antiphon, a sacred text sung typically after a service.
