About Ave Maria
The familiar Latin text of the Ave Maria is set here for SATB choir. The words, drawn from the Gospels of Luke and John, form a prayer to the Virgin Mary, beginning with the angel Gabriel's greeting: "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb." Benz's setting captures the serene and reverent nature of this prayer. The SATB voicing allows for rich harmonic textures, enhancing the devotional character of the music. This motet is suitable for liturgical settings or concerts of sacred music.
