About Ave Maria
David Joseph Stith’s Ave Maria sets the familiar Latin text of the Angelic Salutation. The composer’s setting for SATB choir captures the profound reverence of the Marian antiphon. The text, proclaiming Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus, is treated with a flowing lyricism that enhances its devotional character. This sacred work offers a moment of contemplative beauty for a choir seeking to explore the rich tradition of sacred Latin repertoire.
