About Ave Maria
David Greenwood's Ave Maria for SSA voices offers a tender and devotional setting of the familiar Latin text. The music unfolds with a gentle, flowing character, the three female voices intertwining in smooth, consonant harmonies. The texture is largely homophonic, allowing the beauty of the text to shine through with clarity and warmth. The composer captures the serenity of the Marian antiphon, emphasizing the grace and blessedness of the Virgin Mary. This anthem is ideal for occasions calling for a piece of accessible yet profoundly expressive sacred choral music.
