About Ave Maria
Dominique Phinot was a French composer of the Renaissance. His motets are written for various combinations of voices. This Ave Maria, for SATTB, sets the familiar Latin text of the Angelic Salutation. Phinot uses the richness of five vocal parts to explore the text’s serene greeting and praise. The music unfolds with flowing lines, characteristic of sacred polyphony from the period. This setting offers a beautifully crafted expression of devotion, suitable for liturgical use or the concert hall.
