About Ave Maria
Biagio Pesciolini’s Ave Maria is a sacred motet for double choir (SATB.SATB). The text is a devotional prayer to the Virgin Mary, beginning with the traditional greeting and a plea for grace. It expands to praise Saint Anne, Mary’s mother, and celebrates Mary’s immaculate conception and her role as the mother of Jesus Christ. Pesciolini sets this profound Latin text with rich, imitative writing, exploiting the colour and depth of the two choirs to create a sonorous and devotional sound-world. The work is suitable for services or concerts where a substantial and expressive setting of this familiar text is desired.
