About Ave Maria
Michele Varotto sets the traditional Latin text of the Ave Maria. This Marian antiphon, which forms part of the Rosary and the Angelic Salutation, is here given to a voicing of SATTB. The composer's setting is rich, providing ample opportunity for expressive, blended choral sound. The well-known text, beginning 'Ave gratia plena, Dominus tecum', praises Mary with the words of the angel Gabriel and Elizabeth. This sacred work is suitable for liturgical occasions or concert programming where a devotional Latin text is desired.
