About Ave Maria
Juan Esquivel's Ave Maria is a Sacred motet for SSATB voices. The composer creates a rich texture, with voices entering in imitation to build a warm and resonant sound. The interplay between the different voice parts is a key feature, as is the composer's sensitive setting of the familiar Latin text. The motet moves with a clear sense of direction, its harmonic language both traditional and expressive. The musical lines are shaped to highlight the devotional nature of the Ave Maria text, with careful attention paid to textual declamation. This is a rewarding piece for a confident choir, offering both musical substance and devotional depth.
