Ave Jesu Christe

Ave Jesu Christe is a sacred motet for SATTB choir, setting a Latin text that offers a profound meditation on Jesus Christ. The words praise Him as the sweet way, true truth, our reward, and supreme charity. They continue by calling Him the fount of love, peace, and sweetness, our rest, and everlasting life, before concluding with a plea for mercy for us sinners. Marco Antonio Ingegneri’s setting in this SATTB voicing likely responds to the devotional character of the text, offering a rich choral sonority to match the spiritual depth of the prayer.
