Ave dulcis Iesu

This devotional motet opens with a fervent address to Jesus, praising his sweet nature and calling him King of Kings and living Son of God. The text continues to celebrate Christ as a flower of divine nobility and an unfading blossom of human dignity. The composer Jan Baptist Verrijt sets this beautiful Latin text for ATB voices, creating a rich and intimate texture. The final plea, 'Eia Redemptor, miserere mei' (O Redeemer, have mercy on me), is a direct and heartfelt appeal, underscored by the sweetness of Jesus' name. This is a poignant and expressive sacred work.
