About Ave Dei Patris Filia
Robert Fayrfax's Ave Dei Patris Filia is a five-part motet for SATTB voices, sung in Latin. The text is a Marian antiphon, addressing the Virgin Mary with a series of reverent titles. It calls her the noble daughter of God the Father, the worthy mother of God the Son, the comely spouse of the Holy Spirit, and the most subject handmaid of the one and triune God. Each stanza expands on these themes, highlighting Mary's relationship to the Trinity and her profound virtues: clemency, piety, benignity, gentleness, desire, grace, sanctity, and sincerity. The text culminates by hailing her as the daughter, mother, and spouse of Jesus Christ, emphasizing her purity and role within the Godhead.
