About Aus Dem Baumstumpf
Dalwyn Henshall's setting of this German text, Aus Dem Baumstumpf, is a sacred motet for SATB choir. The text draws from the prophetic writings of Isaiah, foretelling a time of peace and restored creation. It begins with the image of a shoot growing from the stump of Jesse, upon which the Spirit of the Lord will rest. The passage famously describes the harmonious coexistence of predatory animals with their prey – the wolf with the lamb, the panther with the kid – culminating in a depiction of the wilderness rejoicing and blooming. This powerful vision of universal peace and divine glory is set with uplifting 'Alleluia' refrains, making it a compelling choice for mature choirs.
