Aurora by Abijah Forbush — Lyrics

God of the morning, at whose voice The chearful sun makes haste to rise, And like a giant doth rejoice To run his journey thro' the skies. From the fair chambers of the East The circuit of his race begins, And without weariness or rest Round the whole earth he flies and shines; Oh, like the sun, may I fulfil Th'appointed duties of the day, With ready mind and active will March on and keep my heav'nly way.

About Aurora

The composer Abijah Forbush sets a devotional English text in this sacred work for SATB choir. The words celebrate the 'God of the morning' and the sun's daily journey, drawing a parallel to the singer's own spiritual path. The text petitions for divine guidance and the strength to fulfil daily duties with a 'ready mind and active will', likening the sun's unwavering course to the believer's 'heav'nly way'. It cautions against straying from God's light, which illuminates and guides. The music is intended to inspire reflection on faith, purpose, and the wisdom found in divine commands, offering a sense of steadfastness and clarity.
