Auprès de ma Blonde

This arrangement of the traditional French chanson Auprès de ma Blonde for SATB choir offers a delightful opportunity to explore a cherished folk melody. The text, sung in its original French, paints a vivid picture of domestic contentment and a lover's devotion. It describes the joyful atmosphere in a father's garden, where birds build their nests, and contrasts this with the simple pleasure of sleeping beside one's beloved. The narrative takes a playful turn as the singer recounts how her husband has been taken to Holland, and she dramatically pledges to give up palaces and kingdoms to see him again. Its lighthearted yet heartfelt sentiment makes it a charming choice for a celebratory occasion or a concert programme.
