Auff dein zukunfft by Adam Gumpelzhaimer — Lyrics
Auff dein zukunfft, Herr Jesu Christ,
hoffen wir gantz mit freüden,
der letzte tag nicht ferner ist,
da wird vergehn alls leiden,
alls wird werden zu recht gebracht,
durch deine grosse krafft und macht,
alls wird wermacht,
was jemals ist ververbet.
Hilff mir das wir recht wacker sein,

About Auff dein zukunfft
This German hymn, Auff dein zukunfft, for two sopranos and tenor, expresses a hopeful anticipation of Christ's return. The text describes the joy and relief that will come with the Last Day, when all suffering will cease and everything will be set right through Christ's power. It includes a plea for believers to remain vigilant, not to be like the foolish virgins who missed the wedding feast, and a prayer for God's protection and strengthening of faith against Satan's influence. The composer, Adam Gumpelzhaimer, sets these devotional words for a small, intimate vocal ensemble.
