Auf, Christen, singt festliche Lieder by Winfried Grünewald — Lyrics
1. Auf, Christen, singt festliche Lieder,
lobpreiset in fröhlichem Klang.
Es schallet vom Himmel hernieder
laut jubelnder Engelgesang.
Der Vater hat unser Verlangen,
die Wünsche des Herzens erfüllt;
sein Sohn, von Maria empfangen,
erscheint uns im Fleische verhüllt.

About Auf, Christen, singt festliche Lieder
This German hymn calls Christians to sing joyful songs of praise, celebrating the birth of Jesus. The text depicts heavenly hosts singing of the Father's fulfillment of human longing through the Incarnation. It encourages singers to join in this heavenly praise, adoring the divine Son and witnessing the Nativity scene with Mary cradling the infant Christ. The SATB voicing is suitable for a mixed choir to bring this festive message to life, inviting reflection on the humble offering of hearts to God lying in the manger.
