About Audite Nova!
Orlando di Lasso's Audite Nova! is a spirited SATB setting of a German text, typical of the secular Lieder of the Renaissance. The lively and somewhat boisterous lyrics describe a farmer from Eselskirchen and his fine goose. The text recounts the goose's long neck and then launches into a playful, onomatopoeic sequence of actions: 'Rupf sie, zupf sie, feud sie, brat sie, z’reiss sie, friss sie!' The song playfully concludes by likening the goose to Saint Martin's bird and calls for wine and beer to be shared in good fellowship, to ensure the goose does them no harm. This piece is ideal for a lighthearted moment in a concert programme or as a refreshing change of pace.
