About Atención que para hacer
Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco was a leading composer in colonial Spanish America. Atención que para hacer is a joyful sacred work for SSAT voices, sung in Spanish. The text, a lively dialogue between four sacristans from different churches, celebrates the birth of the Christ Child. It humorously declares their intention to sing of the 'beautiful little child' in both Latin and Spanish, merging the solemnity of 'requiem æternam' with the exultation of 'alleluya'. The music would have been used in a festive religious context, reflecting the rich musical traditions of the Spanish Baroque.
