About Asperges me
Karl Kempter's setting of the Asperges me text is a deeply devotional motet for SATB choir. The Latin text, drawn from Psalm 50, is a prayer for purification and mercy. The choir's plea 'Wash me, Lord, with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow' is expressed with devotional intensity. The setting includes the Gloria Patri, as is traditional for many liturgical texts. This is a substantial and moving work for the choir, suitable for services during penitential seasons or other occasions calling for reflection and supplication.
