Ascendit Deus in jubilo by Samuel Webbe — Lyrics
In finem,pro filiis Core. Psalmus.
Omnes gentes, plaudite manibus; jubilate Deo in voce exsultationis:
quoniam Dominus excelsus, terribilis, rex magnus super omnem terram.
Subjecit populos nobis, et gentes sub pedibus nostris.
Elegit nobis haereditatem suam; speciem Jacob quam dilexit.
Ascendit Deus in jubilo, et Dominus in voce tubae.

About Ascendit Deus in jubilo
Samuel Webbe’s motet Ascendit Deus in jubilo opens with an immediate sense of jubilant celebration, setting the tone for the text’s exultant praise. The music is written for SATB choir and uses Latin lyrics drawn from Psalm 46. The text calls for all nations to clap their hands and sing for joy to God, who is described as the great King over all the earth. The composer captures this sense of majestic power and universal acclaim through vibrant choral writing. The motet builds to a climactic affirmation of God’s reign, making it a powerful and uplifting addition to sacred repertoire.
