About Ardo sì, ma non t'amo
The singer declares a passionate love that is not truly love at all. Although he burns, he does not love the faithless and pitiless woman, who is undeservedly loved by such a loyal admirer. He resolves that she will no longer boast of his sorrow, for his heart is now healed. If he burns, it is with disdain, not love. This striking text, a madrigal by Guarini, is set for SATTB voices in Italian. The composer Giulio Gigli crafts a musical setting that reflects the complex emotional turmoil of the words, contrasting moments of intense feeling with passages of resolute rejection.
