Ardisci animo, ardisci by Giovanni Piccioni — Lyrics
About Ardisci animo, ardisci
Giovanni Piccioni’s Ardisci animo, ardisci is a secular madrigal for SATTB choir. The text, in Italian, is a bold exhortation to courage and daring. It urges the listener not to let fear hold back desire, and to embrace boldness if one seeks honour and victory. Fortune, it suggests, favours the audacious. The second part of the text then offers examples of daring, such as Teseo’s pursuit of Tarquina, to further encourage decisive action. It concludes by reminding the listener that if they are hesitant to seize opportunities for enjoyment, they should blame their own inertia rather than fate, and instead attempt, hope, dare, seize and strive.
