About Apostrophe au petit Jésus
This is a charming French sacred chanson for two-part choir (soprano and bass). Peter Philips sets a devotional text which addresses the infant Jesus with a series of questions, playfully contrasting his humble stable birth with the expected trappings of royal grandeur. The lyrics ponder where his court, his robes, and his guards might be, only to reveal that his true regalia are humility, kindness, obedience, and poverty.
