Annapolis by Jacob French — Lyrics
About Annapolis
This setting of Psalm 97 offers a powerful portrayal of divine kingship and judgment. The text, sung in Latin, opens with the jubilant proclamation "Dominus regnavit" (The Lord has reigned), calling the earth to rejoice. It continues to describe God's awesome presence, likening his approach to a consuming fire and flashes of lightning that shake the earth. Mountains melt like wax before him, underscoring his supreme power. The psalm also calls for the confusion of idolaters, and the rejoicing of Zion and the daughters of Judah as God's justice is revealed to all nations. Jacob French's SATB setting captures this dramatic and majestic biblical narrative, bringing the text's powerful imagery to life for a mixed-voice choir.
