Anima mea liquefacta est by Johannes Ghiselin — Lyrics
About Anima mea liquefacta est
Johannes Ghiselin, a composer of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, wrote this sacred motet for a demanding SATB and ATTB choir. The Latin text, drawn from the Song of Songs, expresses a profound spiritual longing. The soul, likened to a bride, searches for her beloved and laments his absence. She describes being found by the city guards, wounded and stripped of her cloak, and calls upon the daughters of Jerusalem to tell her beloved that she languishes with love. Ghiselin's setting captures the emotional intensity of this yearning, with rich vocal harmonies and a compelling melodic line, creating a powerful devotional experience for the listener.
