Anima liquefacta est by Heinrich Isaac — Lyrics
About Anima liquefacta est
The soul is melted, for my beloved has spoken. I sought and found him not; I called and he answered me not. The keepers of the city found me, they smote me and wounded me. They took away my cloak, the keepers of the walls. Daughters of Jerusalem, tell my beloved that I languish with love. Heinrich Isaac's motet Anima liquefacta est sets this dramatic text of longing and searching from the Song of Songs. Written for double choir (SATB and ATTB), its rich vocal textures and expressive harmonies powerfully convey the intense emotions of the text. The interplay between the two choirs builds the narrative, moving from solitary searching to communal announcement, painting a vivid sonic picture of spiritual desire.
