ANIMA CHRISTI

"Anima Christi" is a deeply reverent setting of one of the Church's most beloved Eucharistic prayers. Arranged here by Shimaje Justine for the St. Gregory Special Choir in Ankpa, this piece takes the ancient Latin text—often prayed silently after receiving Holy Communion—and gives it a gentle, structured choral voice. The verses move through the traditional petitions, asking the Soul, Body, and Water from the side of Christ to sanctify, save, and wash us.

For a choir, this is an ideal Communion motet or a piece for Eucharistic Adoration. The arrangement uses a stacked-verse structure for the main petitions, allowing the choir to sing with unified, prayerful phrasing. It then breaks into a slightly faster, polyphonic chorus on the words "Sanguis Christi, inebria me" (Blood of Christ, inebriate me), creating a beautiful moment of musical and spiritual intensity before returning to the quiet devotion of the prayer. It is a wonderful choice for the Feast of Corpus Christi or any Sunday Mass during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
