About Anglican Chants
Jason Smart has composed this SATB setting of a traditional Anglican chant. The chant is a functional form of music, historically used in Anglican cathedrals and churches to sing the psalms and canticles. It typically consists of a short melodic phrase for the first half of a verse of scripture, followed by a longer, more conclusive phrase for the second half. This structure allows for the syllabic and rhythmic setting of liturgical text, providing a consistent and dignified musical framework for daily prayer and divine service.
