Angioletta cortese

The poet implores a gentle angel to carry his fervent words and burning zeal to Jupiter from the third heaven, so that his new prayers may be heard with pity. This secular Italian madrigal for SATTB voices by Allesandre Spontone sets a text from Torquato Tasso's Rime, published in 1582. Spontone was a Venetian composer of the late Renaissance, known for his madrigals and other secular vocal music. This setting offers a moment of dramatic supplication, fitting for the expressive nature of the madrigal genre.
