Angelus autem Domini

This sacred motet for SATB voices uses a Latin text drawn from the Gospel accounts of the Resurrection. It describes the appearance of an angel to the women at the tomb, announcing Jesus's rising and urging them to see the empty resting place. Felice Anerio’s setting captures the awe and wonder of this moment. The music unfolds with a rich, polyphonic texture, characteristic of the high Renaissance, where the four voices intertwine to create a profound and moving reflection on the Easter message. The jubilant Alleluia sections provide moments of exultation, framed by the solemn narrative of the angel's pronouncement.
